Thengai Poli

Coconut Poli:

Thengai Poli, Koppara Bobatlu. Thenga obbatu. Thengai Obattu. Nariyal ka Puran Poli. Nariyal Pooran Poli.

I like this 'Adyar Ananda Bhawan's Thengai Poli', they make it too good. While I was studying at Chennai...myself and my friends regularly stopped there for this sweet. Much like Andhra traditional Bobatlu, but instead of 'chana dal puran', here 'coconut' is used.

Ingredients:

All purpose flour 2 cups
Salt - pinch
Grated coconut 2 cups
Jaggery
Cardamom pods 6 crushed
Ghee

Method:

Knead the all purpose flour, using warm water and bring it to a smooth dough.

Now in a skillet, heat jaggery and add coconuts and cardamom to it, bring this to halwa consistency.

Now make equal parts out of dough and roll them, fill them with coconut and seam them. Roll them again. Repeat the same for all the dough and coconut left.

Toast them on both the sides, use enough ghee.

Thengai poli looks so rich and cute. Makes me nostalgic. Can't forget those days we waited to get hot bolis straight from a small shop in Madras. My favorite too:)
